FAQ
What is a Vestige tile, and how big is it?
A Vestige tile is a 3D-printed hexagonal wall tile that displays part of a race: a relief map of your route, your medal or your photograph. Each tile is 170 mm across the points, printed in PLA in Australia, and hangs on its own navy backpiece. Tiles hang edge to edge, so one race can be three tiles, and the next race can hang beside them as your display grows.
How do the tiles hang?
Each tile hangs on its own navy backpiece, held to the tile by two magnets. Four adhesive hanging strips are in the box: two already fitted to the backpiece and two for your wall. Or hang the backpiece on a screw through its keyhole. Follow the strip maker's instructions, and use a fixing that suits your wall and the weight of the tile, including any medal on it. An assembly guide is in the box. Do not hang tiles above a bed, cot or seat, or anywhere a falling tile could hurt someone.
How do I design a Terrain Tile?
You design it in the Terrain Studio on our website. Upload a GPX file or try the sample route. Drag and zoom the map to frame your route inside the hexagon, choose Plain, Trail or City, adjust the terrain height and choose up to four colours. Generate the 3D preview and check it. When you are happy with it, add it to your cart. We review every design before we print it, and we only contact you if something needs your attention.
How do I get a GPX file?
A GPX file is the route file that watches and apps export. In Garmin Connect on the web, open the activity, select the gear icon, then Export to GPX. In the Suunto app, open the activity, select the menu, then Export GPX file. In the COROS app, open the activity, select the share icon, then Export Data and choose GPX. On strava.com, open the activity, select the menu beside it, then Export GPX. The Apple Watch Workout app does not export GPX files; use an app such as HealthFit or RunGap. A screenshot or a link to an activity cannot replace the file. Vestige is not affiliated with or endorsed by Strava, Garmin, COROS, Suunto or Apple.
Can I use more than one file, for a triathlon?
Yes. Use one complete event file, or up to three separate swim, bike and run files with a combined size below 25 MB. Each leg keeps its own line on the tile.
How much of my route fits on one tile?
One tile can cover an area from 0.5 km to 150 km across, so a 5 km run and a 100 km ultra both fit. The larger the area, the less fine detail: above about 60 km across, terrain detail is limited, and buildings are available only on maps under 5 km across. If a route is too large for one tile, the studio frames a section and you drag the map to choose the part you want.
How accurate is the map? Will my tile look like the preview?
The printed tile follows the design you approved as closely as 3D printing allows. Elevation comes from public elevation services, and buildings, water, forest, roads and snow come from sources such as OpenStreetMap. That data can be incomplete, out of date or simplified, and the preview shows what it holds before you order. Your tile is an artistic representation of your route, not a survey, and must not be used for navigation.
What colours can I choose?
Each Terrain Tile can have up to four colours, chosen from ten: Chalk, Bone, Glacier, Harbour, Blue, Navy, Meadow, Fern, Pine and Red. Features can share a colour. Every backpiece is navy. Colours on a screen can look a little different from the printed tile.
Do I send you my medal or my photograph?
No. You add your own medal to the Medal Tile, and your own printed photograph to the Photo Tile, after delivery. We never receive, handle or insert medals or photographs. A medal and a printed photograph are not included.
Can I buy a tile as a gift?
Yes. The Medal Tile and the Photo Tile need nothing from the person you are buying for. A Terrain Tile needs their route, so send them a link to the Terrain Studio to design their own, or ask them for the GPX file from their race. A route shows where someone has been, so ask before you upload someone else's.
When will my order arrive, and what does delivery cost?
Orders placed from 1 to 31 October 2026 are pre-orders, and we dispatch them between 1 and 30 November 2026 in the order we received them. After that, we dispatch within 15 business days of your order. Delivery usually takes 3 to 5 business days after dispatch, and we email you a tracking link. The delivery cost is calculated at checkout, and delivery is free on orders of $100.00 or more (your order total after any discount, before delivery). See our shipping policy.
Do you deliver outside Australia?
Not at the moment. If you live overseas and would like a tile, email info@vestige.studio and tell us where you are.
Are prices in Australian dollars? Do they include GST?
Prices are in Australian dollars. We are not registered for GST, so no GST is charged or included.
Can I cancel, change or return my order?
You can cancel your order, or ask us to change your design or colours, for free within 48 hours of placing it: email info@vestige.studio with your order number. After 48 hours we cannot accept a cancellation or return because you have changed your mind, because every tile is made to order for you. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law if something is wrong with your tile are not affected. See our refund and returns policy.
What if my tile arrives damaged or has a fault?
Email info@vestige.studio with your order number and photos. Your order is our responsibility until it is delivered, so if it arrives damaged or goes missing we deal with the carrier and send a replacement, or refund you if you prefer. If the tile has a fault, we deal with it as the Australian Consumer Law requires: we normally reprint it and send a replacement, and we pay the postage for a genuine fault. Fine layer lines and small surface marks are a normal part of 3D printing and are not a fault.
How do I look after a tile?
Tiles are printed in PLA, a plastic that softens with heat. Keep them away from heaters, stoves and fireplaces and out of hot direct sun, including sun through a window, and never leave them in a hot car.
What happens to my route data?
When you add a finished design to your cart, its print file and route are saved so we can make your tile. We keep the print file for 120 days after it is uploaded so we can reprint or replace a tile, and you can ask us to delete it sooner. We never sell personal information, and we never use your design, your route or photos of your tile in our marketing without your permission. See our privacy policy.
